THIS VIDEO IS DEDICATED TO THE GREAT DANE SEARLS. RIDE IN PEACE.
Josh Stead is a madman! During the final iconic session at Dane Searls' Giants Of Dirt BMX jumps, Dane invitied Josh to ride the jumps and join him as only the 2nd BMX rider to ever attempt the last massive 60ft jump.
Josh followed in Dane's footsteps, and on only his 3rd run of the jumps attempted the incredible!
Lucky to escape serious injury, Josh's courage shows the world what is possible on a bike while helping cement Dane's legacy in BMX history. May Dane's dream and sacrifice on the bike live on through up and coming riders forever.
Special Thanks: Shane Allchorn, Digger, Nick Richardson, Nick Cooper, Steve Sommerfeld, Tim Wood, Jed Mildon, Josh Stead, Robbie Stewart, Pat O'Neill, Brad Taylor, Darren Pokoj, Max Duff, Caroline Buchanan, Junior & Luke Bridges. Also a big thanks to Matt Schubring and his personal sponsors SP Tools and Orrcon Steel for supporting the Giants Of Dirt Project.
Pure insanity. I have so much respect for anyone with the nuts to try that. It just goes to show that riders like Dane and Josh will continue to bring biking up to the level that nobody thinks is possible.
I think they where trying to say he took 3 runs, first 2 he hit the hip and the booter jumps than on the third he hit the third and decided to flip the 4th
I still don't understand why they jump with bmx! 75 HA, 27inch handlebar, 20inch wheels = very unstable... They got balls of steel and monstruous skills!
you can actually get a higher top speed with 26"...larger diameter has higher top speed, smaller diameter has higher acceleration. that's why road bikes don't use 20" wheels
more speed cause of no suspension? c'mon, do you see them pedaling into them? and the trannies on them are so long 100mm or whatever is going to sap squat. bigger wheels get to higher speeds and are more stable at those speeds..
bigdan30, you actually get a lot more speed on a 20". On a 26 you have a lower psi, which slows you, as well as suspension which takes speed on your landings. 26 wheels go faster over bumps compared to a 20, same principle with a 29er compared to a 26 for xc. I find it much easier to hit a lot trails on a bmx than a mtb cause i dont have to focus on keeping my speed, it just comes. on a mtb, you have to be perfect to keep speed, and you still wont be as fast. I ride both. Have fun on both. There are just a few differences between them. I know i would do these on a bmx before a mtb tho any day. I know it sounds kind of opposite of what it seems it should but get a bmx on a pump trank and see how fast you go compared to a mtb!
I ride 26" on jumps... who said anything about low pressure? Pillowy feeling tires and suspension suck ass on dirtjumps, the fact that you said that 26's are like that almost makes me doubt you ride a 26 for jumping.
from having ridden both for a long time, bmx's are a lot easier to jump than mtb's, even on bg stuff I prefer them, having big wheels is a false sense of security, bmx's are more controllable and easier to clear jumps with
bmxerjosh1, you can definitely get more speed on a pump track because the radius of the features is much smaller, so a BMX wheel rolls up it easier than a MTB could. But with jumps like these, full pressure tires (K-Rads for example hold up to 80 PSI) would have the speed because the jumps are so big, the radius doesn't matter. It's simple physics - roll a large and small wheel down a hill and see who wins; large will every time.
knowing schuie (the fmx rider who owns the land) they will be around for a long time, also schuie has like 180ft moto jumps right near them plus frestyle compound etc. with a jam it would be hard to run because even the worlds very best would have trouble getting through them
Who was that in the Red Bull full face at the end? An FMX rider or possibly Lacondeguy (Unit clothing on, O'Neal helmet), I'd be interested to find out if anyone knows.
Yooo chiiillll with that. We all know you some bad mofos down under. Props to him anyway for sending that one and keeping those trails going. Has to be ONE OF the biggest hucks in 20" history!!!! I think there alot of riders that would mess with those jumps but not me. I would be taking pics at that track.
